We all really enjoyed it next time I will add 1lb of meat I couldn’t find the pearl so I just used yellow onion it delicious thanks for sharing your recipe I will for sure make it again.

In reply to Maryann Darr. There are no cloves in this recipe and no spice bag is needed. But you are right, if you added whole cloves to this recipe you'd need to be very careful that no one bites down on one.

You did not list the cloves in the list of ingredients. I did not have any spice bags; so I told my husband to not chew down on a clove if he got one. The stew is very good but I had to put much more salt in my stew. I also added 1 cup red wine to mine, but I 2 times my stew.
